WINTER SELLING
Of course selling your home in the dead of winter can be more of a challenge. But sometimes you don’t have a choice. There are buyers out there. We just have to make sure they see the value in your home above the others offered.
Winter can be a dreary time of year. To make your home look and feel like a spring breeze, let in the light. It’s easier in the daytime. Open all the shades and pull back drapery and curtains. Don’t be shy about turning on lights. Lamps with three way bulbs will add a glow without the glare. Lots of greenery adds to that spring feeling.
Night time showings call for more drama. Lights that sit on the floor behind the sofa, chairs or tall plants will beautifully outline the walls. Every room should appear bright and cheerful. If you have a fireplace, take advantage by lighting the fire. Set the scene with a couple of glasses on the table, throws and cushy pillows on the sofa and very soft music playing in the background.
Give bathrooms the spa treatment with plenty of plush towels and a lovely variety of nice smelling soaps and lotions. Roll wash cloths up and place them in a basket. Don’t forget to put away all personal items and have your bathroom sparkling clean.
Warm and comfy is especially appealing in the winter so turn up the heat a few degrees. Candles in the dining room and fresh flowers placed strategically throughout your home makes everything feel more luxurious. Simmer spices such as cinnamon in a mini-crock pot and have cookies for munching. Warm apple cider not only smells nice, it’s delicious and easy to fix. Or for a different offering, how about a stew or chili with small bowls, spoons and crackers? Remember, you want your potential buyer to stay long enough to feel right at home.
Be prepared for weather problems with good, sturdy welcoming mats and a container for umbrellas. The path to your door should always be clear and well lighted. It gets dark earlier in the winter, so you might consider placing lights on timers if you need to be away.
